My wife will reach pensionable age in November of this year. She currently is on ESA and in the support group. She gets a small pension from local government which has been paid since she first claimed ESA. What exactly is the procedure and will ESA be replaced by state pension. Will she be notified or will she need to contact anyone regarding pensions etc.

She should get a letter from the Pension Service inviting her to apply for her state pension a few months prior to her reaching state pension age. If she hasn't heard from them within two months of her SPA then she can start the claims process anyhow.I'm not sure about the process for ESA but think it will automatically stop once she reaches state pension age ?

Correct - you need to be under state pension age to get ESA.p00hsticks said:I'm not sure about the process for ESA but think it will automatically stop once she reaches state pension age ?1
