New job seekers allowance.

Hi all. I am hoping someone can help. The new job seekers allowance -can you still apply whilst on furlough. My partner is on furlough till the end of August and after this he has no job. He’s worked since he was 17, severely dyslexic and hates the thought of not working. He’s sent his CV to several recruitment agencies and applied for jobs with no joy. Unfortunately he had no contract with his current employer but has payslips etc and his employer is refusing to give him a weeks redundancy and will only pay him his holiday entitlement at 80% up until June even though he his furloughed till August. ( apparently that’s his employer doing him
a favour). I’m furious he’s being treated like this. Also, the job centre won’t help him until he applies for benefits and they had not heard of the new job seekers allowance.🙄it feels like a never ending cycle of disappointment. I would appreciate any advice, anyone else he can contact etc.

Is he being paid till the end of August? Your post is a little unclear.
New style JSA is for those who are unemployed and if he's furloughed, presumably he's still employed at the moment?
How long has he worked for them? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

1. He is less than 2 yrs employed with this company.0 -
In that case he's not entitled to statutory redundancy pay.oh_really said:

He does have a contract, albeit not a written one. What are you 'furious' about? The employer could have terminated his employment several months ago instead of keeping him on furlough.illbeurhuckleberry said:Unfortunately he had no contract with his current employer but has payslips etc and his employer is refusing to give him a weeks redundancy and will only pay him his holiday entitlement at 80% up until June even though he his furloughed till August. I’m furious because his employer has lied and I won’t go into the history here which would explain my annoyance.

It's hard to comment helpfully without the facts, but surely it's for him to get 'furious' if he wants to, rather than having you do so vicariously?illbeurhuckleberry said:I’m furious because his employer has lied and I won’t go into the history here which would explain my annoyance.
Full info on the government website about the new JSA and who can apply/when (possible to do so if on furlough if you meet the eligibility requirements): https://www.gov.uk/how-to-claim-new-style-jsa1
