No, not according to Age UK's website. You need to call TV licensing on 0300 790 6117 and ask for an application form though. You might consider complaining to the DWP about them giving out incorrect information.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Yes, it's true. You cannot get a TV Licence from the department who deal with Pension Credit, nothing to do with them.
You need to contact the TV licensing Authority.

  • I need advice. Please I  lost my husband  end June.  But I had a letter  from the TV L  dated  May   saying we would get a free license  again but due to covid  it would  be delayed, we had always had pension credit,  How-ever he died, and I started getting warning letters about the license, I informed  them  of his death and stated I was still getting  a much reduced  credit,so  was  still entiteld I was    was told by the PC   how much.   So I t sent an   e-mail  to the TVL  saying I was getting PC  however I had a letter to-day from the pensions stating my PC   was now stopped! not even the ! penny  that would entitle  me.  So My problem is this  and its a moral  one.  If they said  in May my application  for a free TV license  was  successful  AND  it had been sent out before his death  I would have it for another five years  wouldnt I.  Can I fight this,  thank you

I am very sorry for your loss.

If I were a pedant, I would say that you need to start a brand new thread, as this is an old one started by someone else but I am not, so I won't.

As your husband has died, you need to make a fresh application in your own name. There is a lot of information on the Age UK site, click this link here https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/benefits-entitlements/tv-licence-concessions/#:~:text=If you're at least,50% discount on your licence.

There's also information about pension credit here https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/benefits-entitlements/benefits-calculator/

I am assuming that you are over 75 and in that case you could try contacting the Pension Credit claim line to find out why you are now not eligible for it. If you 'always had PC before', it seems strange that you can't get it now. Tel. 0800 99 1234

If all else does fail, though, you can always pay for a TV licence in monthly instalments - that's what I do as am on a pension, like many others.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.
