O/S Daily Wednesday 12 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 gone to work early too, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, DS2 settled and happy.
Cloudy and overcast start to the day, but air is much cooler to enjoying that after the last few days of intense heat - but forecast is for another hot day today before rain and cooler temps from tomorrow. I have a wash load ready to peg out, I'll water the garden and greenhouse at the same time.
Dinner last night was fish goujons, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had baked fish, veg and jacket potato. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, beans and mushrooms.
Work yesterday was quite busy then went quiet then was busier again, not sure what today will bring. On days' off from tomorrow until Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning,
I am sat upstairs. It is so so hot, I am getting up to start my day. The minor thunderstorm we had yesterday did not clear the air. Thunderstorm due around 3 this afternoon.
W/M on as it is not going to rain until 3pm . Other jobs for today are vacuuming .
Have a good Wednesday

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun has his hat on and once again we were foiled - still no rain or thunderstorms! They are forecast yet again for tonight so we will see if it happens. I don't mind the hot days but I wish the nights were a bit cooler.
Nothing but the essential will be getting done today. Jobs on hold until tomorrow when it's supposed to cool down a bit. It was a bit too hot for sitting out in yesterday, I did try but it ended up a sofa read instead. I think it was a bit too much for Exercise Lad as well, his routine was much shorter yesterday.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a grey, still morning here, yesterday turned out really hot, with no thinderstorms. I don't think we'll be as lucky today though.Just did house stuff yesterday, and I couldn't seem to settle to anything, wandering the house looking out of the windows, starting jobs and not finishing them. I'm in a bit of a low mood, I need a kick up the arris I think. I did do some gardening though.Today I'll nip out early to do a little bit of shopping for two friends then take it to them - it saves them getting on the bus, they're a bit nervous of doing that, they are both over 80 with health problems. DH will take me.That's it really, except I really must pull myself together and do some housework.Hope everyone has a good Wednesday. take care folks12

Morning all.Two days of yellow weather warnings and nada! Yesterday turned into a pleasant enough day, today it's already warm and sunny.I'm up and dressed ready for the boiler service bloke due between 8.00a.m. and 12.30p.m. No doubt he'll appear at 11.30a.m. but I have to be ready. Once he's been I want to go out, anywhere.A friend has had her much delayed hip op rescheduled for two weeks time, she now has to self-isolate for the next two weeks. I've given her the grabber and sock puller so she can practice with them, especially the sock thing. And putting on knickers / trousers using the grabber.
Tips from NELSKI.
Yesterday I was struggling with more Excel spreadsheets again. I had done some changes already and then got an email with more names on which meant more changes. Eventually I found a macro online which saved me a bit of fiddling around once I'd worked out how to set it up.I've got a new book on the go so may sit around reading it whilst waiting for the engineer to come.Happy Wednesday to all.14 -
Morning All
No rain or thunder for us although it was forecast. It's cloudy but very, very warm. I opened the windows when I got up but it hasn't made any difference at all!
Work yesterday was truly awful. It's always very busy on the first day of term but yesterday was something else. No PPE, no cleaner and parents who don't read anything we send them and then phone up to ask questions that were all answered in the emails.
Anyway, I'm hoping for a better day today, we have some children in but no-one will have taken any notice of where they are meant to come in so I see chaos on the horizon!
Hope you're all well, take care. XX14 -
Morning everyone
I'm going on a day out today - just cos I want a change of place really. I'm getting the train to Edinburgh - you don't sit next to anyone so that should be fine. I'm going to go to the Botanical gardens - simply because it's somewhere I've never been. It's free to get in just now as you can't go in the greenhouses but still ticketed. I plan on buying myself a sandwich somewhere and having a picnic.
Then maybes coffee and cake this afternoon. I'm looking forward to it.
Hope you all have a good day too.11 -
Morning all
Mums op went ok they hope that they managed to get a sample they did struggle a bit results in 2 weeks as for the colonoscopy she is going to tell them she wants to wait to get these results as she is still trying to get her head around it all.
Right today i have walked the dog drunk 2 cups of tea and cooked DS bits for his pack up so i think i have peaked and will be saving myself for tomorrow as i need to get a shifty on as everyone is home this weekend as we are having a birthday BBQ i have cheated and ordered cupcakes and cakesicles from a local lady but in my defence i wanted DD2 to see the cakesicles which are a lolly shape iced cake with decoration and a stick for a wedding idea also she will do a much better job than me
Dinner tonight salad .
Right onwards n upwards have a great day whatever you are up to stay cool and drink loads xx

Morning all, thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
I've been up for hours but not doing g anything much, other than washing up and washing. I did the washing up last night, I blame the midnight snakes.
It continues us to be hot and muggy. We had spectacular thunder and lightning but no rain, the poor rhododendron has recovered following 3 watering cans worth of water. I've still got my buckets lined up outside but they are dry.
I have things to do but not interesting g things, once I've done those, I just plan to sit about reading.
Bellabella hope your mum is recovering from her op.
Hope everyone has a good day or good ish at least.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11 -
Morning all
Another scorcher today, yesterday we got in the car to take the dogs to the woods the car was in the shade and was 38 deg phew !! We walked in the woods but big dog was flagging a bit so we only had a short one, they both had a cool off in the pond and then the paddling pool once home.
Going to take them out to the woods again shortly and then I might have a ride on my bike later for a while, the magic cupboard will be emptied and re filled and the kitchen wiped over and that will be it for housework today its just too hot, we are supposed to be getting thunder and storms tomorrow but we will see.
Not sure about dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer after this but we could have a jacket spud or an omlette.
Bella glad all went well for mum xx
Have good days all xx

Morning all.
The hot weather has really done for me this week. I felt most odd yesterday. (Hand up the person who sniggered.) I was fit for nothing but lying about on the sofa and reading. I had hoped that the promised storm would freshen things up overnight, but once again the weather men lied.
I must do something more productive today. Would doing the crossword count as productive, do you think?
Enjoy your day out, dp1.
Sympathies Camelot. Been there. Done that. Time heals the wounds, but never really erases the scars. Would like a pound for every time I've heard, "Never mind the children. It's the parents we need to have in school."
Hope you get out soon Gers.
Glad your DMs op went well Bella, fingers crossed for a good result.
AOD I think I'll join you in sitting about reading. Sounds like good plan.
TA, sorry Exercise Lad isn't providing you with the required amount of entertainment. Wimp!
Scarlet, go easy on the housework. You don't want to make the rest of us feel guilty, do you? DO YOU?
I've a feeling I've forgotten someone.
Ah! ILC, that's what comes of posting so early. As you are vacuuming you are excused guilt for today. The rest of us will pick up your share.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I like thunderstorms. It shows that even nature sometimes finds it necessary to scream.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.11
