Charged ££££ in Arrears Charges from Clydesdale Bank from 3 late payments-all immediately rectified

Over the course of my mortgage with Clydesdale bank, I've occasionally been late on payement (three times). This is over the space of 3.5 years. My mortgage is 1610/month.
The reason is varied but everytime I was informed of this matter, I immediately rectified the situation (in the space of days or weeks from the due date).
The last time it was late was 2019 September. I was never informed that I would be charged arrears fees whatsoever. I do freely admit they may have said something to the effect that you may be charged if you keep doing this.
Yesterday I received a letter from the bank stating I owed them £3300 in arrears charges. I rang them up and they said it was due to those times when payment didn't go through (last one of the three being in September 2019). This is the first time I was informed of this. I was in shock and struggled to get my words out but in essense the lady rep said she would take it the complaints department. I should also state that the amount they said I owed on the letter was about 10k off what I really owe in my mortgage.
I'm out of work thanks to the Covid19 pandemic and this is absolutely the last thing I need right now.
Is there anything I can do about this? I appreciate that they may well say in the small print that they can technically do this, but it doesn't feel right at all. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

In the T&C's of the mortgage offer, it details all the charges that could be payable based on various scenarios. By accepting the mortgage offer and completing the purchase, you agreed to them.

Not much use to you now, I appreciate that.

You could ask them for a detailed breakdown of them.

You could ask for a goodwill gesture and see if they will wipe some off.

You could agree a repayment plan for these charges.

You could ask if they will add them to the outstanding mortgage.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

    What is your complaint?
That you dont believe you owe the money or that it has taken them a year or more to tell you?
Did your mortgage statement never advise you of the charges?

If you paid late, then you had extra interest incurred, they had to send you letters, they had to chase you for payments - all of that is time and money. Admittedly £3k seems a bit high but you dont say how often you have been late and a couple of weeks late is not sorting it immediately, a day or 2 late would be (in my opinion).

Have you not got your mortgage set up on a direct debit?

See what happens with the complaint, but I would expect them to offer some sort of goodwill gesture but I cant see them writing off £3k.

I would also look at why you were late on those occasions, not enough money in account??

Yeah there was not enough money in the account but mainly because it wasn't my main account. so the money was there but just not in that account. Basically 3 oversights of mine which i take responsibility for.
Complaints might not be the right word, the person on the other end of the phone just said it would be taken to them. She thought 3200 was too high. Partly the issue is that I was never told at any time that this would happen (appreciate it would have been in the T and C's) .
They never informed me in letter form, phone, email that I owed them any arrears charge. Not one. I guess what I mean by sorting it out immediately, was that when i was rung to be informed the mortgage had not gone through, I sorted it out immediately. I realise that its been sloppy of me.

When you signed the mortgage paperwork there will have been a section that highlighted when additional charges would be added to the account. You signed to say that you were happy with that. I'm not sure why you now believe you have a cause for complaint. You signed the contract agreeing to the terms and conditions.

When i read this i thought it was some kind of joke i just wasn't getting. Then i read it again and realised you are actually serious.

Dumbfounded is not the word. This isn't some kind of missed catalogue payment you're casually talking about, it's your actual mortgage, probably the biggest  financial responsibility any of us ever engage with.

Oh i rectified it immediately .......weeks later!
    It was only 2 or 3 times.....what?
The money was there just not in the right account......wow, just, wow!

I don't mean to be rude OP but seriously, your post reads like the financial planning of a 6 year old.
Yes 3k is high but i really don't think you have a leg to stand on here, good luck.
