I agree. I've already got solar myself but don't mind building up a cushion for winter.

  • You can self-declare on the website somewhere under 'Portfolio' I think.

I looked at that. The wording is a bit unclear, though. It seems as if you can declare 7000kWh without question, which would probably be near enough and should encompass the sum of my KH share plus whatever they amount of capacity they allot for P4.

  • Seeing as Ripple only pick up developments that already have a grid connection and planning, it is possible that we don't see another wind farm for a while as it takes more time to get to that stage than there has been since the planning rules became more favourable to wind. Also, all new RE projects are waiting for NG to sort themselves out.

On the other hand, every new Ripple project reduces the number of "zombie" projects in the system.

  • Just had an email saying that energisation is now not going to be March at the earliest, which is disappointing, and all the turbines aren't going to be generating power until some time in April, so probably no substantial savings until May at he earliest.

Given this and the cost increases and delays announced a few months ago, my faith is somewhat reduced, and I don't think I will be register for the 4th scheme, as I'd like to see Kirk Hill up and running and fully operating before committing any more money.  I have doubts about the ability of the team to manage multiple projects at the same time.

Disappointing but that's a bit harsh isn't it?  The issues around grid connection are well publicised and a 3 month delay (on top of previous 1 or 2 months) isn't the end of the world.  It's a shame Kirk Hill will miss this winter's peak wind but it's a 25 year project!

It's not really Ripple's fault. You can't choose your DNO. I imagine the main connection cables are made to order, and not something you can pick up from Giga-Screwfix. ISTR the lack of cable delayed Graig Fatha, although that was partly due to supply chain problems exacerbated by the pandemic.

While disappointing and as thevilla & Netexporter pointed out grid connections are beyond Ripples control.
Having first registered with Ripple, prior to covid's arrival and knowing how they managed to navigate their way through all the pandemic threw at them then I have every confidence in their ability to deliver on this and any future projects they undertake.
Naturally it's your call whether to invest in Project 4 or not but given what's on offer then it may be rather premature to make that decision prior to investigating the detail once it is made known.
For sure I would be investing in the it apart from the fact that I'm already maxed out on Graig Fatha and Kirk Hill, the former of which has returned almost 40% of our original investment in energy saving costs to date with a likely 20 plus years still to run!

I agree entirely.  There is inherent risk in projects of this nature and this has to be accepted.   The offer document clearly points this out and lists a number of identified risks to be considered by potential investors.  It is disappointing but not entirely unexpected and definitely not something I'm blaming Ripple for.

  • Given the mess the grid is in, a delay of a couple months is pretty good, imo. Also, it is not unusual for planned network outages to not be allowed over the winter period, when DNOs have enough unplanned outages to contend with. So, it is possible that the 2 month delay means they missed their opportunity to complete the connection until the spring.

  • Just been informed Kirk Hill delayed again, 99% likely to miss the April deadline for generating electricity. Very poor project management & blaming every stakeholder for the delays apart from themselves.
Think twice before handing your money over.
