New job help please

I was recently interviewed online and subsequently offered the job I applied for. I spoke to a HR person on the phone where they verbally offered me the job and confirmed the salary I had been offered. Given the jobs situation I said I did want the job but needed to see the terms/conditions etc. It is now over two weeks since the conversation and no written offer/T&C's have been sent to me. I have contacted HR and they apologised I had not received them sooner and said that things have been held up due to Covid. They said they would chase it up but asked me if I was still ok to start on Monday 10/8. I am not happy that I am still waiting for this. Should I be concerned? I would welcome your advice.

Learning a little patience may be difficult, but I think you're being unrealistic about how high you are on HR's list of priorities. Do you really not understand the wall of work hitting every organisation, especially with all the changes which came in a few days ago?

If you don't currently have a job, you have nothing to lose by agreeing to start on 10 August, although ensuring you've got the basic salary confirmed would probably be advisable. They should be able to manage that.
  • Depends on the size of company but it is fairly common. I've had many situations where I've not seen a contract/terms till starting. Admittedly my latest position was the only one so far where I turned up having not asked the salary to be confirmed and just presumed it was as per the job advert. Fortunately my bank details were asked before entering the building in the absence of anything else which I was pretty grateful for.

It sounds as if your answer is "yes, I am happy to start on 10th August, IF you have sent me the following information ..."

I'd be happy with salary and hours of work, the rest can follow, unless there are complications like shifts etc.

I would say something like - 'Happy to start on the 10th of August, subject to me having a chance to review the terms and conditions within the first week of employment. I'm sure everything will be fine, but I just want to ensure that everything contained within is fair to both parties. If you'd be kind enough to confirm that my salary will be £XK per annum, then I look forward to meeting you and the team on the 10th'.

Rather depends how senior the role is - this sort of thing from a junior isn't going to go down at all well with a hopelessly overworked HR department.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

I wouldn't - far too wordy and suggests OP has far more clout than is likely to be the case. Just ask them to confirm salary and working hours and say you look forward to joining them on 10 August. Best of luck!

Are you currently working or not?
If you are, then you need to resign from your current position, and that is what you should be telling  them - you cannot resign without something in writing.
If you are not working then I have no idea what you are worried about.  If you don't like the job when you get there, quit.
