Senior Underwriter

Can anyone shed some more light on the senior underwriter? I understand that all self-employed application currently go via manual underwriting.
Our MA has been told that our lender (HSBC) needs no more documentation from us and that our case has now been passed to senior underwriter for decision - hope to know within 48 hours.
But what's the difference between the senior underwriter and the underwriters that have asked for all of our documents up til now?

Probably a lot more experience than a normal U/W.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

Senior will have the neccessary authority to issue a mortgage offer on behalf of the lender.0

We're complicated case so probably makes sense for someone senior to sign off cases like ours.0

That's exactly it.Process90 said:We're complicated case so probably makes sense for someone senior to sign off cases like ours.
Most underwriters will only have the authority to sign off anything that fits well within the lending criteria - anything outside of the 'norm' will have to go to a senior underwriter.0 -
I hope your application is less stressful and painful than mine.Process90 said:Can anyone shed some more light on the senior underwriter? I understand that all self-employed application currently go via manual underwriting.

But what's the difference between the senior underwriter and the underwriters that have asked for all of our documents up til now?I applied directly through HSBC, had phone call appointment on 8th July where application was submitted, 9th July valuation passed and it went into the que for underwriters to look at it.
I kept chasing and chasing it, first of all MA said the underwriters was working on a 2 week turn around. On 27 July underwriters requested more bank statements which I uploaded same day.Since then I have been chasing it up every day but I keep getting told different things. MA told me last night that they are still awaiting underwriters to review it and they are working on a 3 week turn around from starting with the underwriters. I call up today and a lady tells me it is with a credit officer (which I am guessing is part of underwriter team) and has been since 31st July and it can take up to 7 working days to get a decision from them so I should have a decision by next Tuesday at the latest. She also said that it’s at the very final stage in process so am nearly there. (Now I have taken this news lightly as I’m not holding my breath)
Fingers crossed and hopefully your application gets a result in 48hrs like you was told

We initially wasted 3 weeks with a direct application with them only to be told there was a system error on our application which meant we had to start the whole process over again 'with advice'.
We're nearly there and at least we'll get some certainty either way, very soon!1 -
