This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, DS1 is getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Sun is shining but air is a bit cool, we had the tiniest bit of rain yesterday although it was very localized as where DH works (apporx 3 miles away) they had some quite heavy rain. Dry day forecas for today. DS1 got my washing in before the rain as it looked a bit dark he said. I have another load ready to peg out this morning.
Dinner last night was sweet chilli chicken with veg rice - all eaten and enjoyed by us all. I remembered to get the beef out to defrost - so I'll be putting the slow cooker on, with some veg, beef and stock to make a casserole - and we'll have some mash and veg with that - easy dinner for tonight.
Yesterday work was ok, my other colleague has this week off on annual leave and for some reason I didn't think it was this week so was there on my own before I checked the rota! So it'll be a quiet week and I'm working this Saturday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off NMLC, I hope that things are quiet for you.The day is miserable already. The rain should move away later in the day, perhaps.Yesterday I spent a bit of time ordering some iron-on and stick-on labels with DM's name. After the last hospital stay a couple of her things didn't make it back with her. In the scheme of things it's not a big deal, just annoying really but a phone charger and plug are probably being well used in the ward.
A stick on label would at least let staff know! Anyway, it's done and dusted though you all know how I hate dusting!
No real plans again apart from emptying the very lovely DW.Happy Tuesday to everyone.12 -
Morning All
Wet and soggy this morning, it's due to be windy too so no outside jobs today. I cut the grass yesterday thankfully as it will be a while before it's dry. Yesterday's allotment trip saw a courgette, a tub full of peas and 4 lovely ripe tomatoes, all eaten and enjoyed!
The weather wasn't good enough to wash the blinds so that can wait until another day but I did clean the tops of the kitchen cupboards that were shamefully dusty! Once I started all the cupboard doors and the hob had a good scrub so the kitchen at least is clean. I'll have to do the dreaded dusting (Gers, I hate it too) later as I have visitors for lunch tomorrow.
Not a lot to do today, may make some more napkins, I've been using them instead of bought paper serviettes or kitchen roll, trying to do my bit for the environment!
Enjoy Tuesday, hope you all stay dry. Take care. XX12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
When I got up, at 6, the weatherman told me that there was an 80% likelihood of a decent rain shower at 8.00. I'm still waiting. There have been a few spots of drizzle, nothing more and although I know others are fed up with rain, we could do with a little bit here. Just a bit. One small shower just to help the garden.
So far I have fed the birds and those piggy squirrels, washed the kitchen floor and had toast. I usually do the floor before anyone else gets up because otherwise it gets walked on and I end up doing it twice.
Yesterday I went for a walk and had a nice time foraging bark from a fallen tree by the path, it had shed a lot of bark (a shedload!) so that's sitting on the borders now, might go further today. I also found some nut trees by the path and brought back a few unripe hazelnuts that had fallen on the path, partly to see if the birds like them but also because they are so pretty. There are a couple of damson trees too, all within a few minutes walk and on common land. I go up to see what the streams are doing, there are two that converge to feed the brook at the end of the garden. The one coming from the park has more or less dried up but the one from the golf course is still flowing, or was yesterday. The path is used as a cycle track mostly as far as I can tell.
Other than a pottering type of walk, I don't have much that has to be done. The bathroom could benefit from a scrub and things are getting dusty but I'm another who does not much enjoy dusting. I have a dusting thing that has static electricity or some other mysteriously effective property so I might wield that in a half hearted way. I really should tidy the shed. One day. What I'm more likely to do is make baby gifts, lots more fun. I can knit them with few problems but sewing up has become a bit painful now.
I am still slobbing about in my pjs so I'll go and get showered and dressed now.
Gers, I also look at houses in my old home, you are not alone.
Hope everyone has a good day, whatever the weather.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning all.
Sorry to have been missing, but we had a massive internet breakdown here. The first day we were promised it would be fixed in 7 hours. It wasn't. The next day this had morphed into 31 hours.
Anyway, we are back again now. I must confess that I wasted 2 or 3 hours messing about with my WiFi as I thought that if anything had gone wrong it must be my fault. I am quite used to everything being my fault on anything to do with computers.
Gers, I came across a bundle of my father's name tapes the other day. I bought them when he moved briefly into a home and spent several many hours sewing and sticking them on to everything. He died 9 years ago so it's about time they were de-cluttered. I offered them to my nephew who shares the same name, in case they would be useful when he went into his nursing home. As he is in his early 40s they were refused hastily and without thanks.
AOD, I share your reluctance to dust. It seems to be such a boring, fruitless occupation. I'm also drifting round the house in my dressing gown and thinking that I really ought to be showering, dressing and doing something useful. I'd like to say that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. It would be a lie. The spirit is still in bed slumbering peacefully.
Camelot, we could do with so of your rain down here. The ground is like concrete, though the weeds manage to flourish. We are forecast a heatwave by the end of the week. Honestly, it's the last thing I need. I'm lazy enough as it is, I don't need any encouragement to take life easy.
Today I am trying for a bit of more serious de-cluttering. I'm like a bear defending her cubs when it comes to parting with any of my books, but I have a ridiculous amount and some have to go. If you hear loud sobbing it will be coming from the Isle of Wight.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY (especially for Gers and AOD)
I dusted once. It came back. I'm not falling for that again.

Morning all, it's overcast here but we're not due any rain until tomorrow, so the wm is on and I hope Derek is correct, or I'll have to dry it indoors.I have a few small jobs to do around the house, including cleaning the cooker top and sorting out the f/freezer as the ice cream is rock hard instead of soft scoop. I may need to swap some items with the chest freezer. I need to replace a blind slat too, as I broke it yesterday by tripping up and trying to save my face from hitting the bedside cupboard, it got in the way between my hand and the window
I was definitely in the clumsy club as I also fell into the dining room door handle, not the first time for that but at least I have matching bruised arms now. I just wish these things at the end of my legs would behave.
Other than more cutting out this afternoon, I'll put my feet up and try to keep myself out of mischiefTea tonight will be stuffed jacket potatoes using up some of the gammon bits, there will be a side salad too. BTW I've lost 5lbs in a month, mostly from leaving the bread alone. Yay !!
Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
Morning all! Grey here but that's not going to stop me enjoying my day [!]. I had just made my first cup of tea when the dulcet tones of OH came floating down the stairs with just the tiniest hint of panic 'There's something wrong with the toilet, there's water all over the carpet!'. So I didn't even get to sip my tea before I had to go and switch off the water to upstairs to diagnose the problem. Result = one leaky joint to the water tank. I think the rubber seal had degraded over time thanks to limescale here or just time really. Trying to find a washer for that toilet may take some time. There's also water in the corner of the kitchen ceiling so it must have dripped quite a lot in the night. Oh well, DIY taff to the rescue. After more tea.I went for a walk last night suitably attired to pic blackberries and on the way back, having been quite successful, bumped into the neighbour who was feeding me for a while when I was ill, she'd send over the odd bit of spicy chicken, or spicy soup, so I said I'd make her a blackberry and apple crumble. I cooked the blackberries last night so the crumble will have to be made today now.I also ordered some jars online last night, I've used up all I have here and when I make stuff, i like it to look neat and matching [ OCD or what?] .So plans for today are make the crumble and some banana cake [ got squishy bananas too] for Ohs mum, go and pick more blackberries, a bit of learning Italian, and fix the leaky toilet. By the way, no dust will be harmed in the doing of any of this.Monna, the same thing that made Gers laugh made me laugh too. Nanny, take care of your appendages! Right lovely people reading along, have a good one, stay safe in or out there, and take back your Tuesday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12

Bright and sunny day here again, yesterday turned into another scorcher and today looks the same, my washing will dry super quick !!
Need to clean through the kitchen today and empty the dw and put the breakfast things in and then hang the washing. Will take the pups out later and if I get time will go out on my bike for a ride.
Dinner tonight is chicken stir fry with a sweet chilli sauce.
I need to spend some time in the garden it all needs dead heading and a general tidy up.
Have good days all xx12 -

A bit of light cloud about this morning but the sun is peeping through, forecast for the weekend is looking very hot!
Birds feed and the blackbird has had his grapes.... very persistent sparrow hawk scared out of the tree, the starlings were going berserk at it!
We had a lovely day out yesterday at the seaside 🙂 we don’t go very often as we live about as far inland from the sea that you can get! We went to a small pebbly beach so not too many families about, it was so good to feel that sea breeze on our faces, plus the obligatory rum & raisin ice cream 😋.
A stop off at a lovely riverside pub on the way back for a meal eaten in the garden was a nice way to end the day.
Washing and shopping to do today so best get on....
Have a lovely day all

Hi everyone,Damp & dull here so no need to water my hanging basket-I've only watered it once since we got it ( last week when it was hot for 2 days!) Yesterday was quite nice, DS1 & I spent the afternoon in the park with the DGC. Ice cream was had by allTea was hastily made when we got back, luckily I had a quiche in the fridge so we had salad and baked potatoes, and a few sausages that needed using.I went in town yesterday morning and bought 2 cozzies and a linen mix dress from marks at a good price - I shan't wear them but save them for next years trip abroad ( fingers crossed) for DNs wedding. I've been pleased with my bargain buys from there recently.Hope everyone is well x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
