Loan for a service that's not been fulfilled

Hi,
So a bit of a long one, Last year I took out a loan via a company for HGV Training. Within about 2 months of taking this loan out, I called them and paid it all in one go (About £4700) as I consolidated my debt. Today I have recieved an email saying the company I was going to do my HGV Training through has shut down and they will be unable to fulfill the service to me. I'm not too sure who I should go to for a refund? The company direct, The Finance company or my bank?
Any help would be appreciated!

The company or the finance provider, as long as the loan was sold specifically for the purposes of the course.

Your bank has nothing to do with it.
  • You probably just end up in a long line of creditors.

If you do it again don't pay that much. It should be no more than about £2500 or so combined to do both Cat C and Cat C+E with another few hundred quid on for Module 2 and 4 of the DCPC.

Well, I guess it'd be the administrators of the company you booked with. In future, I'd use a credit card to pay or make a booking because then you can claim a full refund from the credit card company using Section 75 if things go wrong, as they have done here.

The finance company gave the money to you, what you did with it isn't their business. Same with the bank.

Sadly you probably will just end up in the long list of creditors.

Which implies it was done on a debit card-in which case the OP can try a chargeback.

Would this not negatively impact me? Charging back against a finance company?

    In what way ????
If you want your money back, you should instigate a charge back with your bank, you only have 120 days in which to do so.
You may already be out of time.

    Exact wording here -
You should make a claim as soon as you identify the problem or are concerned about a transaction, as your card issuer usually needs to start the chargeback process within 120 days from when you made the transaction or when you were due to receive the goods or services.

If the debit card was used to settle the loan then surely there's no link between the debit card and the training company?

If the training company is just closing down (rather than insolvent) then they should refund you. If the training company is insolvent or you don't get any joy from them, if the finance company paid the training company, then you can claim off the finance company, or if they paid you and you paid the training company by debit card, you could try a chargeback with your bank.

How was the payment made to the training company?
