HSBC 1 month wait for advisor appointment??

Hi
FTB and I got an offer accepted on a property earlier this week. Had a AIP from HSBC and applied for the mortgage today, to be told I have to wait a month just to discuss it with an advisor - go through paperwork etc.
Is this normal? Honestly tempted to look at going with another mortgage company or do it without advice. I kinda know what sort of mortgage I want - Has anyone else applied without advice?
Thanks in advance

It's a month now is it?!
Wow. What a joke. It was 2 weeks a few weeks ago.
I'd advise not to apply directly without advice. We did that, got thrown about with their clunky application system, got our application in eventually but only to find out 2 weeks later by the underwriter that we'd inputted some info wrong - due to their clunky system. And got told that we had to start again and opt for advice.
All in all I'd say apply with another lender.0 -
I got a DIP over the phone and was given a mortgage advisor appointment for 8 days later. The mortgage advisor was very good and today he confirmed my mortgage offer. So from calling for a DIP to getting the offer was exactly two weeks.
I think I was lucky to get an appointment so quickly, but the people on the phone said they sometimes get cancellations if you keep ringing in and bugging them... it just depends on how long and often you're willing to sit on hold!
We're FTB getting a 90% LTV mortgage and only have positive things to say about HSBC.... so far!!!!1 -
Oh forgot to say like the other poster said- their systems are very clunky and glitchy so I wouldn't try apply without advice.0

Ahh thanks for the info. Yeah the nice woman on the phone did say sometimes cancellations pop up and things get brought forward as long as all documents are uploaded (I uploaded within 30 mins of the initial call!) I'm getting a 60%LTV but with a slightly complicated income. I don't mind waiting on hold, wish they'd choose better music though!!emzshea said:I got a DIP over the phone and was given a mortgage advisor appointment for 8 days later. I found when you ring up (I thought 8 days was long and I was angling for a cancellation!), some people are more helpful than others, but keep trying! Good luck!!0 -
could always speak to a broker - we don't have a 1 month wait

I didn’t have a one month wait with a broker for HSBC - applications submitted and valuation happened 9 working days after that. No waiting for any sort of appointment.0

HSBC are one that you do not want to go direct imo, I would always use a broker even if it is a simple case, I certainly don't have time for a 2 hour interview"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Is this normal?
No it is not normal but we are living in a period of reduced capacity at branches.
See a local broker. They are mostly transacting as normal.

We had an appointment with MA within about a week from AIP, that was back beginning of July. I'd say keep in touch with the person who did the AIP and ask them if any cancellation happen to be given the appointment.
In total, it took 4 weeks from application to offer for us and we are employed and self employed so a month wait seems incredibly long especially given that it's not necessarily quick thereafter.0
