Free Solar Panels

Please could anyone help?

I had free solar panels fiitted under the goverment energy efficiency scheme. In 2012

I had solar panels fitted back in 2012 and now have a leaking roof. I want to replace the damaged roof asap as my children are sleeping in damp, mouldy bedrooms.  I am worried what damage this is causing to the structure of my house and over the winter this is only going to get worse. A Shade Greener (the company who fitted these panels) have told me they will not remove the solar panels for this work to be carried out for 7+ months. I am still awaiting a date.

They have also stated that if I pay them £1000 they could carry this work out sooner. I do not have this to pay them. I am a single parent with 2 children. I am entitled to 2 free temporary removals but also have been told I have to pay £1000 deposit.

They have not given me any paperwork since the installation but are quoting items in the contract. I have asked them to send me the paperwork and they have said i will have to pay £180 for a duplicate.

The online reviews for this company are mostly very negative saying how customer's are being treated in the same way. I had these fitted because the sales person said it was endorsed my the government.

I have complained to the company in writing.  Could you please help?

You have posted in the,   Local Money Saving Spotted a local bargain? Let local MoneySavers know!  Board

Since it is not a local bargain?    Perhaps more advice would be obtained from the: Green & Ethical MoneySaving  Board?  LOL

  • The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 is the first main Act, which covers some contracts that have exclusion and limitation clauses. For example, it will not extend to cover contracts which are mentioned in Schedule I, consumer contracts, and international supply contracts. The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 partially lays on top further requirements for consumer contracts. The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 concerns certain sales practices.

Maybe you need to decide what you need to do and get some quotes. See a solicitor for some free legal advice?

Write back explaining that the leaking roof is causing ongoing damage and that unless they make it possible for you to repair the roof you will hold them legally responsible for any further damage caused.

Personally I would get a solicitor's letter to tell them you are going to have them removed now.

There are many posters on this forum who have A Shade Greener  panels - perhaps if you start a new thread someone will still have a copy of the contract.
  • On an initial assessment of were you stand I can only give you a glum opinion. I will spell out what that is.

You were taken in by a shoddy promise of free electricity that has a sting in its tail. That sting seems to be a deal with racketeers making easy money who were also responsible for a cowboy installing. I'm sorry for your predicament...._
