Cancelling a direct debit between mortgage offer and completion?

Hey all,
Due to covid our new build (april completion date) was pushed back to September. We got an extension from Halifax. Question is, our car lease is up now so we handed back the car last week and have been advised to not take out a new pcp deal until we move.

This is fine, we can live without the car just now seeing as we both work from home now and we can hire a van to move.
So the finance company has canceled the direct debit for the car, and i was about to cancel my car insurance (paying the £50 cancelation fee) which would mean another direct debit would be canceled. Will it flag up to Halifax that we've cancelled 2 DD's before the mortgage comes out?
Worst comes to worst, i can keep paying for insurance for another few months to keep the direct debit, but I'm not sure if the more DD's you have the better your credit file? They are always paid and there's always money in the account.

The less you are spending the better.

It's increasing spend or new credit agreements which is the problem.

Plus of course intentionally insuring a car you don't own is dodgy as all buggery.
  • There is zero problems/issues with cancelling direct debits or closing accounts - if anything you are in a better position. You have nothing to worry about

Unless of course you do it without telling the company and expect it to be notification of canceling the contract.

Agreed - but in this case the situation described above re can finance ending and cancelling car insurance debit is not going to cause problems. The finance company has already cancelled debit on their end - cancelling from your account is a mere formality. Cancelling car insurance for a car you no longer have is a no brainer.
