Secondment ending - does this sound right?

Look at it this way: you were only covering the job. Now, you get the opportunity to continue it because they've created an additional role. Kent split into east and west. OP West, Colleague East. OP was maternity secondment, it doesn’t state how East colleague got the East job.

They want your colleague to do the job they are doing; they think they might well be able to find someone to do the job you are doing better than you are doing it. Nothing stopping them thinking this or acting accordingly.0

Could it be that the person in East Kent had already passed the assessment for the promotion at an earlier point in time and so it could be carried over? If you haven’t done that then before an offer was made you would have to do it?0

sounds like they don’t really want to give you the job. I assume both east and west Kent have the same line manager.If they do and one is just given the job and the other is told to interview then it seems likely that they don’t want the second person permanently in that role.0

A secondment is similar to a fixed term contract, if the job is remaining they should just renew that contract.
What are they going to do with you if they give it to someone else, find another role make you redundant?
if redundant where is the justification that meets redundancy criteria?
if there is a need for redundancies they don't need to wait till secondment end date they can start the process now and bump you out with a replacement wher e their job won't get filled.
