hello. out of the blue I have received letters from Lowell asking for payment of an unpaid bill for British Gas from 2016. I contacted them using the template letter from here asking for more details. they have sent copy of final bill & covering letter with details of supply start date, end date, address & the last payment I had made as I did have an agreement to pay outstanding amount each month but still owe £280. I was paying moorcroft debt recovery as they had bought the debt. they did not send a copy of any agreement I had with british gas though, just a copy of the final bill.  my question is where do I stand now? are Lowell able to chase me for this without giving me a copy of any agreement? & if they are am I able to offer them a minimal amount? finances are really tough as husband lost his job through covid (taxi driver who rented a car so no longer has a car to go back to work) & is still currently being shielded til August.  any help is greatly appreciated.  thankyou

I presume the balance on the 'final bill' is not the balance they are quoting. They need to send a statement showing payments, particularly as it sounds like you did make payments through Moorcroft.
Did you agree that you owed the amount on the final bill? I think there is still some way to go in them proving their position.
Probably Moorcroft were just acting for British Gas but Lowell will have bought it, at a few pennies in the £ If you wanted to you could make them a 'without prejudice' offer to settle.

but this is a non-priority debt so don't offer anything you can't afford.

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes the balance is £40 less than the final bill as per my payments to moorcroft. I have looked at the link & will probably try this to get this settled. If I owe £280 do you think £50 would be an acceptable offer? Thanks again0
