Mortgage application & bankruptcy outside UK

Hello,
we are planning to buy a house in UK. I have lived in UK for 7 years and my partner is English. We both have very good credit scores and no debts. Nevertheless I have cca £3000 in debts in my home country (EU) and I am thinking applying for bankruptcy there. Would my mortgage application get affected by it?

Thank you.

  • Unless you lie you will be asked to state you don't have bankruptcy.

Thank you for your response. Do you think it's worth the fuss to apply for the bankruptcy? Or shall I just leave it as it it and slowly repay it. Would they check my financial situation from my country as well as here?
  • I think that you should be 100% honest and therefore mortgage company will know. I recommend though getting a mortgage advisor who knows exactly how the system works and will operate in your best interest.
