Whose name was on the bill? The limited company or your husband?
Whose name was any contract for work in the name of?
Go to legal beagles as per Sourcrates but dig the paperwork behind the contract out as they will ask you for it.May you find your sister soon Helli.

Will your company insurance not cover this?0

The company is a legal entity in its own right, only the assets of the company are at risk as a limited company eg business bank account, not anything in your own personal names eg your house, your private bank accounts etc.
Hopefully you also have liability insurance under the business too.
Pop over the legal beagles and see what they say.

The only way that a director can be personally pursued for a company debt is if there has been proven misconduct within the Companies Act 2006. A suggestion of bad workmanship would not constitute misconduct. That is why a company is known as “limited”. It limits the liability of the directors.0
