Freecycle

Hi,

I had a bit of a search but couldn't find anything about this!

Freecycle is a website where you join a community in your area and list things you don't want, and you give them away instead of taking them to the tip etc. Obviously you can also request things other people are giving away (i'm rubbish at explaining things so it's probably better to take a look yourselves!)

Anyway, i got a very nice wooden cabin bed for my daughter, very kindly given to us by someone else on the site and she loves it! Everything is totally free and given away and it is a way to reduce useful things going to the landfills!

*hopes there isn't a huge link somewhere on the main page!*

It never ceases to amaze me what people will give away. Still I am very glad, as that is how I got my new washing machine. My main problem is that most of my stuff is so worn out I wouldn't offer it on there as it is only fit for the recycling box or the tip anyway. !

I can't say enough good things about freecyclers but have trouble finding anything good to say about the moderators

I recently emptied my entire house almost onto freecycle, everything went really quickly and all freecyclers were lovely, we moved house, and i was looking for a few different bits, I tried to post a single wanted add and the mod wouldn't let me cause I hadn't posted an offer. He flatley refused to consider the stuff I'd given away in another area (at the old house) and was really really rude by e-mail to me.
I've heard from other freecyclers who got told of for posting in the wrong way that they had a similar agressive response.

There are strict rules on this site and woo betide anyone who gets it wrong, if you do get something thou, everyone i've given/collected from has been beyond lovely.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Jaffa: There are some Mods who become 'little Hitlers' when it comes to Moderation. They seem to take delight in being able to have to power to say NO to a post from a 'cycler.......we are not all like that though.

Sorry you have had a bad time of it in your new town. I hope that there is more than one moderator in your towns Freecycle. Try emailing the sites List Owner instead. They might appreciate the 'heads-up' on your rogue Mod.
Look for their email on your towns Freecycle home page. It will be at the bottom.

.....oh, and i've just re-read the letter that gets sent to new 'cyclers....I can't find where it says you have to post an 'offered' first. (I could be wrong, please let me know if I am, but I can't see it)

Regards from a 'nice' Mod xx

  • I am a moderator too and yes one of the rules is that an offer must be the first post. The trouble is then we get someone offer a sim card or something that is broken, then ask for a laptop etc.
We are not all "hitler types" tho i know some who are lol.
Rules have to be followed or the site would go mad.
Hope you continue to use the site.
