NatWest and old defaults (more than 6 years)?

We have applied for a mortgage (home movers) with NatWest and have been told we have passed the credit assessment stage. However in the declaration we sign is says ‘have you ever had any defaults’. My husband had 2 over 6 years ago but they have dropped off, no payment issues since then, however I assume he has to declare them? Will they then decline us?

You have to declare them if they say EVER.
You don't have to declare them if they specify a time frame eg LAST 6 YEARS.

They may not decline due to the age, as they do consider adverse history.

@MovingForwards no, one is coming up to 10 years old and the other Just over 7, both settled for the same amounts of time. Spoken to NatWest and they said if they are over 6 years he doesn’t legally have to declare them but she has put a note on the file detailing the old ones... she just said for him to sign and it should be fine as they are both old and settled. So confusing, at least if it gets turned down we can appeal as the call was recorded!
