Universal Credit is means-tested. If you have savings or other capital over £16000 you won't be able to claim; if you have savings under that but above £6000 you would have any UC award proportionally reduced (£4.35 for every £250 or part thereof you have over £6000).
You would be entitled to the standard allowance at the couple's rate and the child element once baby is born, and if you rent you would be entitled to help with that in the housing costs element.
Any income will be accounted for, e.g Maternity Payment or Maternity Allowance. Earnings are not deducted in full; with a child your would have a work allowance which means they ignore a certain amount of earnings before they start to make deductions of 63% of anything above that.
Your husband would be required to look for work (which it sounds like he already is) unless his mental health prevents him from working, in which case he would need a fit note from his GP.
I don't know if sanctions are back in force yet but if they are he *may* be sanctioned for 13 weeks after being sacked; it depends on the actual circumstances. For a couple this means getting less, rather than no payment at all. It may go to a Decision Maker whether or not this happens and I'm not saying it to frighten you but just so you're aware it might happen. (You'd still be better off than without any help from benefits though, even if it is a reduced amount for a while.)
Have you tried a benefits calculator as suggested?
Be aware that if you are currently receiving any other means-tested benefits they would stop if you claim UC, and you can't go back on them. This includes tax credits.
[Just FYI, if you'd posted this on the general area of the Benefits board you'd have had much more responseI don't know who or how to ask to have it moved though, sorry.]
