Turkey help

I have a few turkey dilemmas/queries:
What should I get? - a whole turkey, or a predone stuffed turkey breast roll (bearing in mind the only time I'm not working over the festive season is Xmas day itself) Though I'd be grateful for suggestions of where to buy, most posters here are UK based and it'd be a bit dear to post one to Australia!
How much meat per person? I've had the suggestion of 300g per person... but was that with or without bone... and is that a hungry persons or not?!?!
Please help!

I suppose it's down to personal taste whether you buy a whole bird or not but a small one is easy enough to cook.
Aussielass may be able to help but Lettuce is her speciality.0 -
I think the 300g per person is off the bone weight to allow for a hot serving, a cold serving and a sandwich. I remember hearing a butcher on the radio say allow 1lb (500g) per person of whole turkey.
If I remember rightly there's only the two of you? I'd be tempted to just get a breast or similar, unless you're prepared to *do* stuff with the leftovers for the freezer. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
I find a turkey crown is a bit more interesting than a turkey roll but cheaper than a whole bird (and I still get the obligatory turkey sandwiches out of it for Boxing day).I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I can second the turkey crown, there should be plenty of meat and they're usually pre stuffed so save you making separate stuffing.
If you've only got the one day off then go with whatever is easiest so you can make the most of the little time you have off.0 -

Well, normally there are just two of us, but this Christmas the entire family of inlaws are coming to mine, so we're looking at least 10 people.
I've ordered a 4kg Turkey buffe, which apparently is a boned out turkey rolled with stuffing (including the stuffing it should come to about 6kg), this should be enough hopefully.
And I've done a very big cheat that isn't OS, I'm picking it up pre-cooked on Christmas eve! (it was only 15 quid dearer that way...)

Thanks Churchmouse! I feel a bit less guilty now. In fact, I'm positively angelic for resisting the offer the guy made of getting the chef to quote for roast potatoes, gravy and veggies!!:A:rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
