You are not misunderstanding, this is exactly what I meant. There is the odd year when the first accrued payment at the increased rate is the actual first payment of the year. This makes the DWPs figures correct. That is unless there are actually 53 payment days in the year, when on DWP figures you get a whole week untaxed. I am considering waiting for my executors to sort it all out!
