Marsh finance... not a clue!

In 2012 I brought a car with finance from Marsh finance. In 2012 I lost my job resulting in me failing to make payments and the car was repossessed. I was told it was taken to auction and sold, I have no idea how much and was never told. I was advised to carry on with payments but ended up losing my job again. I was taken to court for non payment. In 2016 I started to pay £30 a month to get whatever it was I owed paid off. I've been paying that ever since but never received any statements from them or updates on what I still owed. I've rung them today for a statement of what I have paid and to ask how much I still owe. I was put through to the legal team who had absolutely no idea how much I have paid, what my balance is etc! I even asked them if they had a database with accounts on and was told no they didn't! She told me she would have to do a statement manually next week where she would have to put all the data in.. now I'm quite worried as I would have thought a company like that would have databases etc for easy customer account access but apparently not. I'm worried that I may not get the right information or figures etc and I may get ripped off. Surely there are legal implications in the fact she cannot tell me how much I owe when I ring up? She could pluck figures out of thin air. Do I have a case here against them?

If you disagree with the figure they provide, you would simply provide your evidence of payments.

    It's not that complicated.

Surely you would still have the same bank account, you can go back through all records and put it all together for them with what you have paid, but do you know how much was owed in the first place, if not that is where you could have your problem.

Thats just it george9071... I was never advised what the car sold for or what my balance was at that point. I have never received a statement from then since taking out the finance  .Yes I can work out what I've paid them thats not a problem.... the issue is they have never advised me what I owe.... if you know what I mean. Its difficult to explain on here....

The car was sold 8 years ago, and you never bothered to ask at the time or since what the balance owing was, or what interest was being applied?
If you defaulted and were taken to court in 2016, then the paperwork served at that time must have shown what was owed then, even if you can't now go all the way back to 2012.
