Is frozen fish fillets much better value than chilled?

MrsStepford said:Pretty much all natural fish fillets from Iceland say 'Produced and Packed in China' now. No fishing waters mentioned so I'm presuming farmed and frozen. When it says 'Atlantic salmon' that DOESN'T mean it was caught in the Atlantic, it's a breed of salmon. Other supermarkets are going the China route too, just as they did with garlic.
A lot of fresh fish is just defrosted farmed fish. I was shocked by a fishmonger at Sainsbury's. I asked him what was wild and he replied: " None of it ".
Much of the fish our fishermen catch isn't landed in UK. The fish Brits prefer is often imported. It's difficult to say whether fishermen will land fish in the UK and hope that Brits will buy it,Not even Cornish mackerel?.I know the Asda ones are wild caught but no idea about Sainsb

I think there is a bit more shrinkage with frozen fish when cooked....but must admit the days of the local fishmonger going off to fish market at 4 am in the morning have long gone....unless they are close to likes Grimsby or Newlyn.
Also so much farmed fish now.....and salmon was a thing of very special events years ago and seasonal, now it is one of the cheaper fish....must admit love it but not happy with the colour pellets and other things added at these fish farms.
Folks have long attempted to change our fish eating habits and failed....I have seen hake in supermarkets such as Morrisons and Sainsbury as plentiful this time of year but none so far.
Sure the supermarkets could have a catch of the week type thing to encourage folk to buy and try.1 -
@Farway that was one day in Sainsbury's when there wasn't any wild fish at the fresh fish counter. Doesn't mean that it's like that all the time, or that the situation is the same cross all supermarkets.
@Vegastare I don't eat salmon unless it's wild Alaskan now. Joanna Blythman, the food writer, warned everyone on Twitter, not to buy it.
I've seen frozen South African hake at Iceland.0 -
