Mystery 'Cheque deposit'?

I don't really know where to put this but I have had a mystery 'cheque deposit' of £700 turn up in my account and I am really confused about where it came from. Don't get me wrong I am NOT complaining about it especially as I am literally about to complete on a house purchase but I thought a cheque would only turn up in my account if I cashed it in myself?? Can I find out where it came from? A cash gift from god perhaps??

What did the bank say when you asked them about it?

If it's been deposited in error, it will be yanked back when someone finds out that the payment they sent is missing, but was received by you. So don't spend it until you get clarification.

Mystery solved! I had a little motorbike that my Grandad said he would sell for me ages ago. He has had it for about 4 years now sitting in his garage and I had kind of forgotten about it / thought it would be no good by now. Well apparently he managed to sell it today but didn't tell me. I rang him just in case he had anything to do with it, he did! That was a nice surprise, very well timed.

It's nice when you get a little surprise windfall like this ... especially when you realise you do not have to pay it back
