P55 tax refund delay

HMRC received my claim online on 14th May and the online check progress page in my HMRC account gave an estimated completion of 3rd June.
On 2nd June they sent me a letter requesting my bank details for payment as they are not currently issuing cheques. I returned the completed form on 4th June and this is showing as received on 10th June and then subsequently marked as "Processing complete" some time ago.
The P55SUB form is showing "Being processed" still with an estimated completion of 3rd June.
There is a note saying "Your form is taking longer than estimated to process. We are either doing technical work for it, or are busier than usual".
So it's taken them about 8 weeks so far. Have any of you been experiencing similar delays getting P55 refunds? I just wanted to know if this is typical in the current conditions before bothering them with a chase-up call.

Not P55 but my mum filled in a form online to dispute a tax credit overpayment and she had an estimated completion date of 2nd June which is still being processed so I'm guessing they're just very busy.0

I'm in a very similar position, Clive. They received my P55 on 11th May. They sent a letter asking for my bank details. I phoned to give them and the lady I spoke to said their letter had been sent in error, they needed more info. I returned their letter with the requested info and as of yesterday their website said it was still being processed.
However I have checked this morning and it's showing as "processing complete". As I sent mine 3 days before you did I think it's a fair assumption yours will be processed any day now. Hope so.0 -
Yes experiencing dealys with my P55 as well and so did my partner. The same old HMRC, They make work for themselves, they tax us as if we are earning £100,000's because we got yearly pension in one payment, If they did it like Bank Interest, i.e. not done at source and we declare it then it would be less work for them. Usual Govt processes of slow, antiquated and out of touch.0

A third more people now submit their tax returns on the 6th April than just a few years ago. Hardly surprising that there's a delay at this time of the year. Technology can only do so much.0
