My DW wants to start a self employed ironing business. Can I be her customer?

    Where would you draw the line?
    Would your wife charge you for making you a sandwich for your lunch at home?
    Would she charge for your evening meal.  
    Would you charge her for decorating the room? Or driving her to the shops?

  • I'm not sure what the reason behind the question is, but if you are paying your wife market rate, I can't really see an issue from a tax perspective. If she earns above £9500 she will need to pay NI, if she earns above £12500 she will need to pay Income Tax.

    There was a series of short comments on several posts by this new user. The user name is also the name of an accountancy business in London.

    Although it is sort of relevant as the general consensus is it is not the letter of the law (tax regulation) that is important but what the intent of the transaction that makes it null and void.
