Hi, I'm currently on furlough but am thinking if a career change I've applied to pretty much every supermarket for various positions and I just don't hear back from them, is there some hints and tips concerning applications / CV's anyone can suggest, I feel that either there's just so many applicants or they look at my cv which is mainly in a totally different sector for 22yrs and doesn't get any further? Thanks

Make sure you include key words on your CV. Most employers glance through them. Are you doing the basic stuff on your CV - top quality white paper, black ink, correct grammar etc? Otherwise it's "destination bin!".

Look at what you say about why you are looking to change field - you want to show that you have a realistic view of the field you are applying for, are persuasive of where your skills will fit in and be a benefit but also acknowledge where things will be new to you. You don't want to come across as if you haven't noticed you are applying in a different field, or are applying for everything going.

It's more likely to be down to the number of applicants than age. Two colleagues of mine, both over 50, got jobs with Morrisons albeit about 5 years ago.

Nobody takes paper CVs any more (Edit: except maybe the local small shops like corner shops, takeaways etc), even with supermarkets they have their own online system, but yes check your grammar and spellingRobM99 said:Make sure you include key words on your CV. Are you using the supermarket's online jobs portals?
If so (because I've never used one) do they ask for a CV or do you have to say how you meet the job spec etc? It would be helpful to know how you are applying to be able to give any advice. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

From what I remember no CV was asked for, a series of questions was asked.elsien said:Are you using the supermarket's online jobs portals?

Sometimes it can come down to any testing they ask you to do too. You will be ranked in order of scores.I used to deal with some of the recruitment for a supermarket and that’s the way we used to do it.0

Yes, I was wondering if the OP was applying through their portals or sending CVs in which are probably being ignored. With any luck they will be back to tell us.DCFC79 said:
