Old debt

Hello, does anyone have any advice for me please? I took out a loan with Barclays eight years ago when I was having mental health problems. I managed to negotiate just paying a pound a month so obviously the debt is the same now. I have written to them several times making offers of full and final settlement (less than the original amount but what I can afford),I never have any answers back even though I have sent letters via registered post. What would other people do now?
