Returning from Furlough

Hi all. New to these forums so here goes. I was contacted last week by my employers who said that they would like me to return to work full time but for the next 6 weeks I’m in a different department with a different manager and being trained to do a different job. I asked if my previous position was redundant and was told no it was that they do not have the capacity for me in my previous role presently but need to fill a gap in capacity in another role. I have since returned and had a mother meeting with my new manager who explained what it is they want me to do and that this new role is a big opportunity which they feel I would excel at. I have also been advised that my salary won’t change even though this new role should have a lower salary and also the company car I had in my previous role I can continue to use on a pool car basis. If after 6 weeks which commenced on 1st July I don’t like the new role I can return to my previous role however since returning I have had nothing but encouragement and I get the distinct impression that they want me in this role and not my previous one. My question really is when to ask for a new contract. I was given a furlough contract at the beginning and I have since returning been written to welcoming me back with who I’m working with (new manager) and hours etc.  The pros here are same salary and continued use of the car but the cons here is the environment. I previously worked in a quiet part of the office and now I’m in a busy call centre with a stricter regime. Do I have anything to worry about.

How long have you worked for the company?

Ultimately though it seems that they don't have your role as it was and are offering something else because they rate you. If its not for you you use the the time in the job getting paid to find another role more suitable.

I’ve worked for the company for 5 years. Yes your absolutely right with your advice. Many thanks. Even your short answer is an incredible reassurance and many thanks. Onwards and upwards, or sideways.

Should I ask for a new contract as I still have my furlough one which replaced my previous role one or should I feel grateful that they are giving me work and wait until the 6 weeks is up.

I'd give them a little bit more grace: HR are probably up to their eyes in getting people back from furlough. They may also be waiting to see whether or not you want to stick in the new job.

I think your right Savvy. Through the fog of several million things going round in my head at the moment, what you’ve said there I have told myself. Thanks for helping.

Well, let's face it at least you're not being made redundant like many, many other people in this situation. Businesses didn't ask for this to happen neither did the human race.

Are you going to get a job anywhere else in this current climate?

Suck it up and be glad you've got a job and a steady income. Nothing at the moment is guaranteed unfortunately.

    Best of luck.
