Reclaiming deposits/ payments from postponed wedding

Options
Hi!
we are due to get married this September however due to COVID it is unlikely to go ahead/ wouldn’t be the day we hoped for. Our venue have given us a postponement date in 2022 however we really would like a 2021 date.  The venue is a DIY marquee venue who use outside caterers.  We paid our deposit and first payment via bank transfer (paid around £4000). Unfortunately we didn’t have insurance when COVID happened and were unable to get any.

I just wondered if anyone knows if there is any hope of recovering costs paid so far for the venue if we decided not to take the 2022 date offered and look for a new venue?  I did ask the venue who said they would be unable to refund anything. I’m not sure if the chargeback process could apply here?

Any help/ thoughts  are greatly appreciated!

  • What does your contract say?
  • i too am concerned about handing over thousands of £££ for a service, when the firm won't accept a credit card payment.  Is there a way to protect this, as the service is not due for months, and a lot can happen to a firm in that time.
