With all respect to OP and I have been through root canals myself, you are looking at this the wrong way.
Accept the way the costs are structured.
You should be thinking about your tooth. Is it worth spending £600 to save it? The answer will depend on its position in your mouth and the condition of the surrounding teeth. It is totally reasonable to have a discussion with your general dentist on whether an individual tooth is worth saving. If you decide you want to save it then then you need to feel comfortable with the dentist you have chosen to do the work.
