Full and Final Settlement - Partially Satisfied as opposed to Fully Satisfied?

Hello,
I have written today to my creditors with Full and Final Settlement offers, as I am likely to be made redundant in the next few weeks, but will receive a redundancy payment which I would like to use to try and clear as much debt as possible.
However, on a few of the debt collection agencies websites, with regards to accepting 'discounted' payments as full and final settlement, it says the following:
"If there is a default registered on your credit file, it would be updated as partially satisfied as opposed to fully satisfied and this may look less favourable to future providers of credit.".
1. Is this pretty standard with reduced offers of full and final settlement?
2. Is this something they can be flexible / negotiate on? I would of course much rather have the debts marked as settled and rest assured that they have been resolved and are behind me!
3. Would this information stay on my credit file for 6 years from the partial settlement date, or from the original default date?
Many thanks all!

A default is bad news to start with and it really won't make much difference to future new lenders whether they see fully satisfied or partially satisfied on your credit file. Some future lenders might see a partial settlement as a risk, some might see that it's settled meaning you have more disposable income available to repay them should they lend to you. So it's swings and roundabouts.
If the default is fresh and has 6 years to go before dropping some people might consider fully satisfying the debt. If it only has a year to go before dropping off, partial settlement might suffice if you're not planning on making any new credit applications in the mean time.

Yes this is standard stuff, no, its not flexible. If you have a part payment accepted in settlement of a debt, it is classed, and marked as a partial settlement.Only a full repayment of the outstanding balance can be marked as full settlement or satisfied.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
