Hard Search for partner's credit

My partner applied for PayPal credit last week and both of our credit records had a hard credit search recorded at the same time.
I already have PayPal credit and his account wasn't searched when I applied last year.
Is this normal? I thought a hard search was only done if the individual themselves applies for credit and at most I would have expected a soft search on my record. Should I dispute the search?

Not if you’re financially linked no.
Searches can be done on both credit files.0 -
I’ve just had this as well, but with Halifax, Partner has just applied for a clarity credit card, because our P.O. Mastercards are being migrated to JaJa who use Visa, and this would leave her without a fee free mastercard for use abroad. I already have a Halifax clarity card and Halifax ran both a soft and a hard search on me when she applied. We have a joint current account but otherwise our finances are entirely separate. Never seen this before for either of us, despite a fairly regular churn of our cards in order to take advantage of promotional rates (on average, every 1 - 2 years). A soft search would have been reasonable, but not a hard search.
As JaJa will now doubt be adding another hard search when they migrate the PO card, I will have two hard searches recorded within a couple of months, thus impacting my ability to get decent 0% purchase offers. I am not at all happy about this, and will be making a formal complaint to Halifax. I will be asking them to remove the hard search from my record, and if they won’t then they’ll lose two customers!0 -
JaJa won't hard search you. They've no legal right to. My BoI gold card has told me that categorically it won't affect my credit rating as only the provider will change. Not sure what you're stressing about.0
