Starting pension in 40s

Hi I'm looking to start a pension. At 40 I know I've left it a bit late in life, but better late than never.
Has anyone got any advice on good providers, I've looked at virgin and Aviva so far but would be great if anyone has used these providers, or anyone like myself has started saving later on in life.
Many thanks for any advice.

Your first port of call would be your employer (assuming you are employed) who should auto-enrol you into their pension scheme (providing you meet the auto-enrolment criteria).
Just bear in mind that you got a lot of catching up to do with the contributions.0 -
The OP might be self employed , in which case he would have to start his own pension.
At this stage I would not worry too much about which pension provider . More important to get started .
Aviva are the biggest I think , although for their simplest pension you have to go via a broker but that;s easy anyway .

For another simple pension you could look at PensionBee.
When your pot has grown to a decent size you can always transfer it later, if necessary.
