Elegibility during covid
Options
Hi,
Im looking to borrow to purchase a car through a personal loan (my wife is expecting our 2nd child so need a bigger car!) and want a reasonable repayment plan, with fixed installments.
I have a good credit score (975) with Experian, yet I am not eligible for any personal loans under 9.9%! We have a reasonable household income and we have the balance to afford the repayments. I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with eligibility during this time (it hasnt efffected me before Covid)? I am in full time employment and thankfully work in a Local Authoruty in a key service, we havnt been furloughed and I am firly confident that my job is secure for the time being.
Any comments or experience would be welcome - we arent desperate yet (due in Dec), but with no sign of this being over soon (July) I want to know what is best to do. We could probably afford a older, less reliable car to tie us over without borrowing, but would rather not!
Thank you furum

You need to look at your credit files, rather than the scores, as they're not used in lending. See what appears on each and how your accounts are reported.
Lending criteria have tightened, so if you're on the margins of affordability or risk, you will find it more difficult than previously. And if you have a poor history, that could lead to outright rejection.3
