In debt with CCJ

Options
Hello, first time poster here but wanted to share my story.
I was meant to be private renting a flat with my boyfriend until my credit check came back negative. Its only then when I checked my credit score how bad my debt had become.
I have a CCJ against me from ShopDirect.(think Lowell bought this too)
I owe Lowell £960 and £881, they must have loved buying my debts.
I owe a CC company £256
I have three payday loans that equal to £565
I also made a mistake of getting a contact phone with EE and then getting my ex boyfriend one after losing a job so I owe EE £1,997
After finding this all out, it hit me like a brick wall that I need to get my stuff together or I will never be able to have my own place. There is no excusing for this..I can not even use I was young as an excuse, it's time to feel free.

They do. They've currently have £ billions of debt to collect - all usually small amounts - so don't feel picked on.

That may be a double mistake as that is how they trace people. Often people move from rental to rental making it difficult for creditors to track people for small amounts. But if you take out a mobile phone contract or a SIM using a bank account, then it is easy to find you.

Best to sit down, find what you owe and get a plan together to deal with these, even if it takes 6 years. Dealing with debts costs less in the long run as failing to do it means you are always paying high interest / top prices on what you do.

I get tjat you didnt know how bad debt was buf if you knew you were in debt how did you think you would pass credit check for rental place. They liklwy denied you because they want arruance rent will be paid. Having tnis debt may think that they wont get paid rent. Rent js a prority bill so you need to pay that first.

So next steps would be do a statement of affairs. See where we can hrlp you pay this debt off. Are you living with boyfriend now ans can you stay put foe the moment.

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of really helpful and knowledgeable people here who will be able to help.

It’s great that you’ve come here and confronted the debt, I know how hard that is...for years I wouldn’t even check my bank statement out of fear...

First step is to fill in an SOA and post it here and then people will be able to advise on a solution, it’s important that this is realistic rather than aspirational:

Once you’ve got a handle on the debt I’m sure you’ll get your own place.

Someone else may be able to better advise but I see a couple of your debts are to payday loan companies. I’m sure I’ve seen people claiming compensation for irresponsible lending?

I don’t really understand the post above. I’ve been in debt my entire adult life and have never had an issue renting. Appreciate you have a CCJ but people with CCJs buy houses. The OP knows they failed the credit check now, hence they reviewed their credit file. It could turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to them, though.
