debt from a foreign country

Hi, I'm a British citizen and resident in the UK and last year I was expelled from another country. I was given the option of paying for my air fare out of the country and having a one year ban or the country would pay but then I'd be banned for life and "in debt" to the country. The price they quoted for a flight out of the country was ridiculously expensive so I chose the latter option and accepted I'd probably never return
I received a registered letter last week from their Embassy (they had my address because I applied for my visa via them) telling me that I'm in debt to that country for more than 1500 pounds and that I should pay it within one month. Can this be enforced in the UK?! Thanks, Viola

What country?
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere

I don`t think the UK and Brunei have any reciprocol agreement in place whereby a foreign judgement can be enforced over here, my thoughts are that it can only be enforced if the debt is sold to a UK debt purchasing company, which is unlikely.I would very much doubt the Government of the country itself would start legal action over here against you, especially for £1500, but stranger things have happened.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
