Car finance in ex's name, registered in mine.

Write to him (keep a copy) and send registered post. Explain that you can't keep up the car payments and thought he should know because seeing as the finance is in his name, any missed payments will be marked on his credit file and cause his credit score to drop. If the car is repossessed he will be liable which could mean bailiffs at the door or him being issued with CCJ. Ask him if he wants to take the car for himself or sell it ( probably meaning there will be a shortfall to pay).
Have you paid 50% of the loan back? If so you could ask the finance company if they will take it back (voluntary reposession). I did this when I couldn't afford my car and it was a huge relief. I cried when they towed it off!! I felt like a failure but 5 mins later I knew it was the right decision.0 -
Why tell him the consequences?Fireflyaway said:Write to him (keep a copy) and send registered post. Because it's the decent thing to do. He may not realize how much his current behaviour could mess up his credit / cause added hassle. Once he knows that, he may be more likely to act reasonably which is in the OP's interest.Marvel1 said:

He sacked the OP from their job and screwed with their income, I wouldn't do him any favours in helping his credit.Fireflyaway said:
