My Jar outstanding Debt Letter

Options
I received an email from my Jar confirming my outstanding balance was £171.50.  When I called them with the intention of paying the amount in full, I was told that the amount stated on the letter was incorrect and the balance was actually quite a bit higher.  Can I hold the company to the letter for the £171.50 or will I have to pay the higher amount?

  • Did you actually ask why the balance is higher?

If it was a genuine error, then no. But it would be reasonable to expect that, having discovered the error, they write to apologise and explain, and give you the correct figure.
  • They just said it was a system error.  I've had no response from them yet asking what the actual figure is as I have now had 3 numbers quoted, ranging from £171.50 to £404.  I guess I'll have to wait for them to sort the system out.
