Buying abroad

Afternoon all
We have been mortgage free for a couple of years now and have around £60k saved for a possible house purchase in Almeria, we are saving around £2500-£3000 per month.
My question is, we are currently looking at properties with a aim to buy probably some point in 2021, could we remortgage now for £60-70k so we have enough money banked so when we see a house we want we can purchase it immediently?, ie, would a bank give a remortgage without the money going to a purchase right away?

Our current house is worth around £150k and the idea would be we would buy in Spain next year with the aim to move in 2025/26 so no major issues with selling our current home at the moment.

Thanks in advance

  • @dirk_ We explored a similar possibility a few months ago - releasing equity from our BTL with the intention of being able to act as a cash buyer (albeit for a UK property) with money in our account ready to go.
We got in touch with a broker but unfortunately couldn’t find a mainstream lender who would be ok to do it in this way. The options that were presented to us were non-mainstream and second charge lenders who were far too expensive for our liking so we dropped the plan.
Your scenario is slightly different, hopefully you’ll have better luck.
