Can a bank pay back my overpaymnets?

As per title can I request the funds back?

Only if its in your mortgage contract. Some you have to apply for it back, some you can reduce your payments to the amount of overpayment, some are flexible and will allow you to withdraw overpayment back to your bank account.
You are going to have to check with your lender on this one I'm afraid. Because even if you tell us the lender, your product may be different than others with the same lender1 -
