Tongue Scrapers and Hairy Tongue

Options
Anybody got any recs for one of these?

The only one I could find locally was the OraBrush Tongue Cleaner which whilst okay - makes me constantly gag to the point of throwing up breakfast  - it's really bad on the bit on my tongue which sits in my throat.

Looks like this https://d3gqasl9vmjfd8.cloudfront.net/13fab977-1657-4ada-9b82-6a039fd347a6.jpg

I've looked at reviews and searched around but am a bit concerned about buying off Amazon as stuff like this tends to be sold by Chinese drop shippers

It's bacterial - did a month of the mouth wash and oral thrush gel and am still taking the Udo's Choice Super 8 Microbiotics 2 months later.

I've pickled some garlic and have a clove or 2 before tea which apparently should help does anybody know of anything else to try?

How do you know it's bacterial , has a dentist looked at it? Oral thrush gel is not active against bacteria , it is for a fungal/yeast infection. It can make things worse.
Mouth wash will similarly kill off even good bacteria and a month course could similarly make things worse.

Your dentist might want you to send them a photo rather than come in , but speak to an oral medicine expert not some random people on the internet who cannot diagnose your problem and without diagnosis advising treatment may make things worse.

    Phone your dentist.
  • I've been using one of the cheapie chinese ones from ebay like this

for several years now and it works well

    You having a bad day?

Right I'm following the guidance on the NHS website for treatment of it!

So I do not need medical advice I'm after anybody who has gone through this and anything I can do which might help and also what may stop it re-occurring in the future!

    Thanks for killing my thread!

Now since I followed NHS advice I saw a chemist as instructed - amazingly my dentist missed it - who given my fungal history put me on the mouth gel. I wanted the single hit tablet, mouth wash and probiotic.

In fact the probiotic recommended by my chemist (only given because I asked for it) whilst expensive has worked wonders for me! Hasn't cleared my tongue issues but...... that plus self changes to my diet seams to have cured what a referral to a dematologist specialist at the hospital couldn't!

Now I've eliminated one cause we're now on to the next. Which basically requires a round of more focused dietary changes but......... I still need to manage the issue.

So a better tongue scraper, maybe a supplement for oral health? Unicorn poop mixed with star dust if it helped somebody else I'll try it.  My current thought is a paste of honey and raw crushed garlic - couldn't use that before because sugars feed thrush.

If that fails after a month I contact my GP to send out a swab kit to be sent off for testing and re-evaluate the nuclear options which will damage me more than a tongue scrapper and a bit of mouth wash!

Wow!  OP, totally inappropriate tone to brookjack who has been helpful to many for years!
I have a hairy tongue problem. My dentist recommended chewing pineapple or sucking a peach stone.   Too big for me, so I sucked apricot stones. Worked, until I clonked a tooth and broke it.
