Rental property versus paying off current mortgage

Inheritance received -  Could someone advise please on whether it is better to;
pay off some of current mortgage and invest some in rental property
pay off none of the current mortgage and buy outright  a rental property
do buy to let on current salaries after paying off mortgage
In essence, Is it better to have money from no mortgage every month or rental income??
Thanks

    Without knowing a whole lot more about you and your family, ages, income, pensions, savings, location, long term plans, wish to be a Landlord and understanding of everything involved how can anyone answer the question.
    IFA, BTL mortgage broker, Lettings agents, Solicitor and Accountant should all be consulted about your plans.
    3% extra stamp duty, costs of buying and setting up a BTL property, type of tenant, costs of managing and maintaining a second property.
    Are you better clearing your mortgage and increasing your pension contributions !
