I know and people don’t appreciate that having that amount coming out of your salary each month isn’t great. I’d rather just get it gone. If it didn’t come out monthly I would of been happy to hold off, but there is the interest on it too.South_coast said:I thought the same - and all the people who say "Why are you paying it off, it'll just get written off anyway" drove me mad! My BF still thinks it was a bonkers decision as he thought it would get written off (even after I showed him my T&C's 😡), but sounds like you're a similar age to me and it would have run until age 64. I did not want that hanging over me for my whole working life!I am in my mid 30s (can’t believe it ha!).

Nice to meet you. Thanks for your message. I have been doing this blog for one year next month. I generally only post on each pay day but it is so nice to see how far I have come and the progress I am making. I just need to stick to that now! One thing paying off credit cards but another not respending.hanb2 said:Having just read through your diary, I’m going to follow along as our situations sound fairly similar but I definitely need more of your self control!Good luck with the house and I too need to sort myself out before going back to the office. Lockdown has not been kind to my appearance!
Are you doing a blog? I can follow you back. Good luck to you too.I have only really had self control in the pandemic..now having to go back to the office in a few weeks so then I buy clothes etc for work, but I will try to keep it to a minimum!June 2020

@WSC you have done really well on your journey so far. I just popped in to say that we take in lodgers and find it to be very helpful financially and also the lodgers themselves are very pleasant and polite. Indi1

Thanks Indi for your message. That is so good to know as I have said to my partner that when we are in the new house that we need to rent out a room or two to help us with the mortgage. That’s really helped me to confirm we should do that.IndiJonesi said:@WSC you have done really well on your journey so far. Another payday and today was also bonus payday!I have just put another 2k into my savings so I now have £25k in savings.I would of had more but I have spent a lot of money last month taking my boyfriend first his 30th birthday celebration & I bought myself some summer clothes.I have been so good with money the whole of the pandemic that I just thought we needed a big treat.Especially as our flat has still not completed!! And we see having a nightmare in a chain with a house we are no where near moving into. The stress is crazy. We sold & bought in March & neither have exchanged yet!! We are going to have to move into rented accommodation or with family possibly when flat completes people we are buying off refuse to do so to allow us to complete (even though it’s a problem with their purchase that is holding up the move). Infuriating. It’s costing us thousands for a problem they have.
Anyway I am pleased that currently I have 25k saved. No credit card debt, no loans or student loan. Once the flat does finally complete (hopefully next couple of weeks) we will be in a good position (apart from having to wait for our house!).Once that does happen I will look for a new job (can’t face it atm due to problems with moving) as I work so hard & so many hours & I need more money I so I can save more, pay for the new house and be financially secure.June 2020
