I have no idea what possesses people but it seems to be the same everywhere, the state my local beach was left in yesterday was disgusting. The clean up teams have done an amazing job but it's not fair that they have to and, no doubt, they'll have to do exactly the same again first thing tomorrow morning.
I don't know what the answer is but there really needs to be something done about it. I'm only a 15 minute walk from the beach and haven't been there at all this year because it's too full of selfish idiots.8 -
I wish I knew the answer as to why people think it is okay to litter. I live in Dorset but have kept away from one of our local walks as I know it is too narrow in parts for social distancing and is very popular at normal times. It bothers me to see usual amounts of litter so I know I could not cope with the amount left on Bournemouth beach. At the end of the day I believe that you cannot educate stupid and hope that Karma works.6

I live on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and, whilst we don't have day trippers to the same extent as the morons descending in force on the coast, we get our share and some of the reports on the local news beggar belief.. We have a lovely beauty spot not far away by the river, which has always been popular with local families so the little ones could paddle in the river and dig on the "beach" That was taken over by hordes of irresponsible people creating mayhem, then leaving all their rubbish behind.. A local man interviewed said the graveyard nearby was absolutely disgusting, awash with human filth. He was near to tears. When did we breed this generation brought up to think only of themselves and their own pleasure."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"6

Although I feel constrained by Mark Drakeford's five mile limit, it's kept the idiots away from our beaches and countryside.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)7 -
We live on the edge of the Peak District. There have been a lot of moorland fires caused by discarded BBQs.4

It isn’t just beaches and beauty spots where people are inconsiderate. I live in a small village and on a narrow quiet street. I am about 40 yds away from the church. When there is a wedding someone nearly always parks opposite my drive. This means that I can get neither in nor out of my driveway in my car. Recently, someone doing work on a house a little along the street did the same. I had 2 small grandchildren in the car and I was about to take them home. I went to the house and asked if they could move their van to which I was told ‘keep your hair on’. I sat in the car with the engine running for over 10 mins until I had to go again to ask them to move. What makes these people think it’s ok not to have some consideration for others.4

It's not just the beaches. We have a beautiful country park less than a mile away from us, full of wildlife, it's a really lovely place to visit but so many people just leave their litter everywhere. It's dangerous for the animals and one of the more disgusting aspects of some people today. As a child I was taught to take everything home, a habit that I have encouraged my own children to embrace.
I also cycle out from my town into the countryside. A couple of weeks into lockdown, there was no litter to be seen anywhere. As soon as the fast food restaurants opened up again, the litter was back, strewn everywhere.
I have no idea why some people are so utterly disrespectful about the environment and don't think that they have to deal with their own rubbish. I can only assume that they have not been taught to clear up after themselves. Or else they have always had someone else to clear up after them.
And don't get me started on dog mess!4 -
It's truly shocking isn't it.....
The amount of litter generally is awful, it has been increasing for several years now but the way our beaches and beauty spots are being trashed is beyond belief.4 -
As so many can be identified because they have been caught on camera cannot they be named and shamed. I would have been horrified if I had ever been in a position to be named and shamed and my work colleagues had found out. I think the only answer is road blocks manned by the army as I have no confidence in the police. The people who act like this are feral and their children will be no better. All that clutter used to be money3

Southend beaches have been very crowded, but less so where I live - or perhaps I don't see it because I venture out after 8pm to enjoy the last 90 minutes of daylight. What we do have a problem with is kids (these are middle-classes rather than your typical disadvantaged thugs) congregating by the green and smoking silly things. I don't like it but I would be really bothered if I owned one of the multi-million pound houses along that stretch! The local councillor has called for the army to be drafted in after things got out of hand the other evening, I think all this could be avoided if parents just took an interest in where there kids are. They are probably sick of seeing them after 14 weeks at home.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.5
