Keep your fruit and veg in the fridge (apart from onions and bananas).
You can keep bananas in the fridge so long as you wrap them up in a plastic bag.....it stops them ripening as fast and stops them affecting other fruit which they can do if exposed

Some posters must have massive fridges or buy minimal fruit and vegetables! 🤔😁 I'm sure it's right that they could keep better but I don't have room for that much. I keep salad type vegetables and try to find room for most greens but the rest have to be in dark, dry, cool (ish) cupboard. Generally, they're mostly eaten within a week.

When I was a kid, fewer veggies went in the fridge, now so much veg is chilled, that it sweats in room temperature, before summer/central heating on. On a hot day walking to car, some Tesco organic carrots had water swishing around in the bag already. We have an under the counter fridge, which gets full with cheese, yogurt, milk and veg. Meat always goes straight in the freezer and then gets defrosted later. We only have room to defrost 1 or 2 meat/poultry/game packs at once in the fridge.

As you say, space is the limiting factor, but it's well worth investing in a premium fridge if you can.  We have a double door (American style) one with several zones that you can set at different temperatures and humidities.  It was expensive, but it's more than paid for itself as fresh food lasts several days longer than it did in our old "regular" fridge.  I take my hat off to people managing with just an under counter fridge!
