HSBC Conveyancing Panel

Hi

Looking to apply for a mortgage with HSBC and they charge £295 for Conveyancing. Does that mean I have to use their own solicitor for my purchase? Will I automatically get Countrywide, or do they provide a panel list to choose from? I have read some horrible experiences about Countrywide, would like to avoid them as much as possible but still go through HSBC’s Conveyancing panel.
I would welcome suggestions/comments as to why this may or may not be a great idea.

Thank you.

Not sure what HSBC's current policies are, but in general lenders need to use a solicitor who is on their "panel" i.e. that they approve of. You don't need to use the same solicitor as your lender - though if you instruct somebody else to represent you then you're increasing your legal costs and to some extent the timescales involved.
