    I have smart meters and pay a fixed amount per month to OVO. During the summer I'm well in credit and now, as I reach the end of my fixed term contract, I am about £20 in arrears. I'm switching supplier and OVO will just debit me for what is owing when they get the final reading.

    I had a smart meter installed by EDF. Electricity fine, gas no signals. I complained, a few years went by and still nothing. I changed to OVO, electric worked, gas did not, and complained again. I complained again and was told my gas meter was now working - which was strange but it seems my regular readings (something to do with price hikes ...) were fooling them and it was not working. Waiting to see what, if there is anything they can do. I suspect it is simply that the gas meter is at the front of the house, the electric at the back and the signal from the gas meter is just not strong enough. Saving money? Well they simply tell you what current readings are no more, no less.
