Help to buy mortgage BAD CREDIT

I am looking to get a mortgage, I am a first time buyer and will be using the Help To Bug scheme but have a bad credit history.
I have a few defaults (most recent being 2019) which are all settled/payed off. I have no recent missed payments and up to date on my credit cards (never missed a payment on any card).
The property I am looking at is £290,000 using the help to buy scheme at 40% and I have a deposit of £15000.
Please can anyone point me towards how to get a mortgage or what my chances of getting a mortgage are. I earn £50,000 so can afford the payments just finding it difficult with where to go given my previous history.
Are there any good brokers who can help or am I best going to a direct lender?

The fact that your defaults are so recent will probably take you off the high street. Definitely use a broker.0
